ANTHRAX's CHARLIE BENANTE: Four Years Later, Remembering DIMEBAG

December 8, 2008

ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante has issued the following update:

"I was at the House of Blues the other night and was remembering being there four years prior with Dime [late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott]. It was one of those crazy nights, one shot lead to the next shot and then a double and so on. That was my last memory of being with Dime, it was a great one to have.

"We've been working on a new record and I hear 2-3 songs that Dime could've put his stamp on. One in particular would've been so beautiful... maybe we'll just leave an empty space there?

"I went to Best Buy and bought the book ['He Came To Rock'] that Vinnie [Paul Abbott] put together. I sat in my car and got all emotional, the book just got to me. It was put together really well from start to finish, it made me sad and happy at the same time.

"I miss the voice, the goatee, the guitar player, the prankster etc.

"Going to see KING'S X. It's weird that they're playing here around this time. I think he made it happen

"I need a drink.

"Whew, whew."

"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was shot to death along with three others during a DAMAGEPLAN performance at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio in December 2004.

Dimebag was posthumously inducted into the Hollywood RockWalk in May 2007 in a ceremony attended by Vinnie Paul, their father Jerry Abbott and Dimebag's longtime girlfriend, Rita Haney, along with members of ALICE IN CHAINS, ANTHRAX, KISS, SLAYER and Ozzy Osbourne's band.
